Between client work, keeping the server stack healthy, and a side project called Shomer that kept pulling our attention, we kind of forgot to talk about everything else we’ve been building.
Shomer is a home hub that runs across three services and defaults to a photo display when nothing else is going on. It’s been a good distraction. But while we were heads down on that, a few other things quietly went live that are worth sharing.
So here’s a look at what’s been running in the background.
Kavita Reader
This one’s been out for a while but we never made a big deal of it. Kavita Reader is an Android app we built for self-hosted Kavita libraries. If you run your own Kavita server and want to read your books and comics from your phone without dealing with a browser, this is it. No cloud, no subscription. Kavita Reader on Google Play.
Ayin
Ayin is a Discord bot running on a Raspberry Pi that keeps an eye on the home media library setup. Disk space, library status, temperature alerts, media requests — all from Discord, no VPN required. Dry personality, always watching. Designed around the Watcher from Horizon Zero Dawn which felt right given what it does.
Deputy
Deputy runs The Ocho, a Minecraft Bedrock frontier realm. Onboarding, PvP tracking, bounty system, lore submissions, voice ambience, POI maps, weekly awards. He takes the frontier seriously. He has a ledger and everyone who’s ever set foot on the server is in it.
n8n Automations
The one that actually started all of this was the contract and quote automation we built for CBT itself. Client submits the intake form, Invoice Ninja creates the quote, DocuSeal generates the contract, a branded signing email goes out. Zero manual steps. It just runs.
We also built two Plex library maintenance workflows — one that runs daily to clean up improperly tagged or uncatalogable files, and one that runs nightly to flag and retire media that hasn’t been watched in 60 days. TV seasons get evaluated episode by episode before anything gets touched. Both post reports to Discord via Ayin when they run.
Bash Scripts
A few shell scripts keeping Tank healthy behind the scenes. A TUI service manager for the Docker stack, a disk usage monitor that walks through cleanup interactively or runs silent on cron, and a nightly full backup to Google Drive with an HTML report attached.
All of this lives on CBT Labs now. We’ll keep adding to it as more things get built. Shomer will be up there once it’s further along.
