App Review: “Files Go” by Google

So taking into account that this is my first review outside of Google Maps, and the app is still in Beta, I hope you find this useful. The app, “Files Go,” is the latest to the PlayStore from Google.

I downloaded this figuring it would be an excellent addition to my collection. Once downloaded, I opened the app immediately looking at everything I could, like a child on Christmas day who just tore the last shred of wrapping paper off his favorite gift.

I was immediately greeted with some rich cards displaying categories of storage that needed to be looked at. Now, I’ll give you a little bit about me. I am very familiar with how to navigate the Android file structure. Seeing that it found files I missed, is impressive.

I went on to the files tab at the bottom and found a very watered-down version of a file explorer. The Send and Receive functionality is a nice addition as now android has an equivalent to Apple iPhone’s AirDrop. It doesn’t offer much as far as navigation through your phone’s file structure yet. I’m hoping to find that in later releases, maybe a paid version for advanced users. Although upon further checking in other apps, the option for “Send to nearby friend” is now available.

The ability to remove duplicates, sort through large or downloaded files all in the same app, and app being only 12.14MB, I’m giving this five out of five stars. With Google publishing this, it’s pretty much a guarantee that we will have continuous support and updates to this.
